The Vanishing Floor
Story summary
Xiao Li, a contemporary working-class grinding horse who scrimped and saved for 10 years, finally saved up a 500,000-yuan down payment and bought a second-hand apartment on the 18th floor near her office. However, when she gets off work and returns home, she discovers that the entire 18th floor of the building has vanished. Not only has her newly bought apartment "grown legs and run away," but the real estate agent and former owner both claim they have never met Xiao Li. When Xiao Li calls the police, she is instead treated like a lunatic; everyone can testify that the building only has 17 floors and no 18th floor, and she is sent to a psychiatric hospital for forced treatment. Desperate to escape shock therapy, Xiao Li jumps out of a moving vehicle to flee and dies on the spot from the fall. When she opens her eyes again, she has miraculously been reborn on the exact day she signed the house purchase contract!
